Experience fitness and relaxation in this tai chi session for beginners and more experienced participants alike. Presented in partnership with the Monon Community Center. Registration is required.
Tai chi, or tàijí, is a mind-body practice that combines slow, smooth, continuous movement with focused breathing. Research shows that tai chi can help improve balance and flexibility, reduce stress and lower blood pressure, improve focus and concentration, and it has many other benefits. In this session, we'll start with a short introduction to tai chi followed by actually doing tai chi movements that illustrate why it's so beneficial. Tai chi can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages and fitness levels, and it can be done seated or standing. The session will be led by Ingrid Ritchie, a board-certified tai chi instructor with over 10 years of teaching experience who currently offers events in Indianapolis and at the Monon Community Center.
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and chairs will be provided if you desire additional stability. Please note that this program will begin inside the Main Library Community Room and then move to the outside event lawn for the physical practice. In the event of rain or poor weather, the entire program will take place in the Community Room.
This program is designed for adults, and registration is limited to those age 18 or over. Participants will be required to sign a waiver at the start of the program to participate.
