In this class “Frank The Bread Guy” Petrarca will demonstrate how to create (culture) your very own Sourdough starter from scratch. Registration is required.
You can always get some starter from a friend or via mail order but creating (culturing) your own starter is a very common goal and a huge feather in your baker's cap. This class will cover all the steps and some of the science behind sourdough. Frank will also cover the ongoing "care & feeding" so this starter can be yours for life.
This process takes about 2 weeks before your starter is ready, so patience is the key; it's a process and not a recipe. For those who may not want to go through that entire process, Frank will share some of his existing starter so you can bake right away. Attendees will need high gluten bread (white) flour, whole wheat, and rye flours at home to use later as the starter requires about 5-6 days of "feeding." It's like a little science project!
This program is for adults. Registration is required.
If you are unable to attend the event, please cancel your reservation so someone on the waitlist can join. If you are on the waitlist, attend only if you get a confirmation email indicating that a spot has opened up for you. Staff members will be taking attendance.
