Community Room BExperience Latvia’s vibrant heritage through music, dance, traditional dress, and folk arts.
As part of the Jelgava, Latvia–Carmel, Indiana Sister Cities initiative, local Latvian heritage organizations will come together to showcase the richness and diversity of Latvian culture and traditions. This special cultural presentation will offer the community an opportunity to experience Latvia’s vibrant heritage through music, dance, traditional dress, and folk arts.
The program will feature traditional Latvian folk dancing performed by the folk dance group Jautrais Pāris, a Latvian traditional folk costume show highlighting the distinctive dress of Latvia’s regions, and a performance on the kokle, Latvia’s traditional stringed instrument, by the kokle ensemble Sidraba Stīgas. The celebration will also include traditional Latvian singing, bringing together generations of local Latvian performers to share the songs, dances, costumes, and traditions that have helped preserve Latvian cultural identity for centuries.
