From classical chorales and overtures to jazz and pop standards, the Hamilton County Saxophone Quartet brings a varied program that’s sure to have something for everyone.
With a repertoire spanning centuries, the Hamilton County Saxophone Quartet reimagines traditional music in new and creative ways and innovates with modern compositions that showcase the harmonic possibilities of a four-voice ensemble. The quartet was founded in 2023 as an offshoot of the Hamilton County Community Band and consists of saxophonists from central Indiana. Dave Paulson plays soprano and alto saxophone in the quartet, and he plays with several community bands. Kevin Kinyon holds the alto chair in the quartet. He studied saxophone at Ball State University and, following a decade of performing and a 15-year hiatus, returned to playing in 2019. Tenor saxophonist John Kelley plays with the Indianapolis Symphonic Band and is a 17-year veteran on the saxophone but a lifelong fan of good music. Kevin McLaren anchors the quartet from the baritone saxophone chair. He has returned to playing flute, clarinet, and sax after a 20-year hiatus.
