Discover how German families send their children into the world of learning. This program is designed for adults. Registration is required.

A heartwarming presentation on Schulanfang, Germany’s cherished first-day-of-school tradition. Learn about the origins of the German school cone Zuckertüte, how families celebrate this meaningful rite of passage, and why it continues to resonate across generations. Presented by the Carmel-Seiffen Sister City Committee in partnership with Carmel Christkindlmarkt, Inc., and the Indiana German Heritage Society.

After the presentation, you'll have the opportunity to make, decorate, and fill a Zuckertüte for your incoming kindergartener or first grader, as supplies last.
