In Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling, 13-year-old Aven Green tries to adjust to middle school after moving to a new state. Aven faces many challenges at her school because classmates only seem to see that she was born without arms. But a new friend and a mystery help Aven settle in and realize that, as always, she can do almost anything. Join us in discussing this wonderful story about Aven and then engineer a robotic hand that can pick up various household objects.
Registration is required and begins February 20. To ensure successful signup, each child age 9–12 needs to be registered separately, using the child's first and last name—not the parent's name—on the registration form. A library card number is not required. A caregiver must be present and actively engaged in the program. Siblings are welcome and don't need to register.
