Event LawnPair up and create a chalk drawing of a book cover inspired by summer reading on the Main Library sidewalk. This registration is for adults participating with a child age 8+. Registration is required.
Grab a partner, find a book cover inspired by our summer reading theme "Unearth a Story" (or a simply a book cover you love), and recreate it in chalk on the library sidewalks. If you need inspiration, check out this dinosaur book list.
- Kids ages 8–12 must be paired with an adult and should register using the Register button above. Participants should register as a pair, and only one partner needs to complete the online registration.
- Adults or teens (ages 13+) should register at this link. Participants can register as a pair, but it is not required. Patrons can participate by themselves.
Check-in begins at 10am on the sidewalks on the west side of the Main Library, where you'll be assigned a 4' x 4' foot square of sidewalk.
All ages are welcome to watch and vote for their favorite drawings. Drawing will end at 1pm, and voting will be open from noon–2pm. The winners will receive a trophy created by the library's Digital Media Lab after the event.
The library will provide chalk and water, but you're welcome to bring your own chalk/chalk pastels for brighter colors or cover designs with lots of a single color.
In the event of rain, this event will take place on Saturday, June 13, from 10am–1pm.
