    How to Reserve a Room

    The Digital Media Lab at the Main Library offers a video recording room and two audio recording rooms for recording videos, podcasts, music, and more.

    • In order to use a recording room, you must have a library card that is registered at the Carmel Clay Public Library.
    • Cardholders may reserve an audio room for up to 4 hours at a time and up to 8 hours/week. Cardholders may reserve the video room for up to 6 hours at a time and up to 8 hours/week. (Note that the video room is not available on Sundays.)
    • Audio and video rooms may be reserved up to 21 days in advance. Reservations will not be taken over the phone.
    • Patrons who are reserving the audio or video rooms and using the equipment in them need to be at least 16 years old.
    • If a room is left vacant for more than 15 minutes, staff may release the room for someone else to use.

    FAQs

      • Using the video room does not cost anything. The only requirement is that you have a valid library card registered at the Carmel Clay Public Library. You'll need your library card number and PIN to make a reservation.

      • The video room is 22ft x 14.5ft.

        Audio Room A is 11ft x 9ft.

        Audio Room B is 7ft x 7.5ft.

      • We're more than happy to help you get started with setting up the camera and lights in the video room. However, it is up to you to use the resources and conduct the shoot. Take a look at our Getting Started in the Video Room video for some quick tips.

      • While you're allowed to bring your own camera, you don't need to. We have a variety of cameras available to accommodate different skill levels.

      • Yes. We also have special tripods and ring lights that you can mount your phone to.

      • We do. Keep in mind that we only allow our cameras to be used with the lab's own teleprompter and tripods to ensure the equipment is used safely.

      • No. To ensure the safety of our equipment, we only allow the use of the lab's own tripods with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras.

      • Video files can take up a lot of space. Please bring an external hard drive with plenty of storage available (we recommend at least 256 GB) to transfer the footage once you're done recording. It may be faster to transfer data on one of the Mac Studios in the main Digital Media Lab area.

      • Absolutely. You may bring your own camera or use our Canon EOS R8.
