Holds Pickup Lockers

    The Holds Pickup Locker at the Main Library

    Our Holds Pickup Lockers offer a convenient way for you to pick up your holds, even when the library is closed. Available 24/7, they're a great option if your schedule makes it difficult for you to visit when the library is open or if you have mobility challenges.

    Lockers are available at the Main Library (inside the parking garage) and at the Joyce Winner West Branch (behind the branch building).

    Note that space in the lockers is limited, so holds may take a bit longer to become available here than at the Main Library itself or at the West Branch. Holds are also held in the lockers for 3 days as opposed to the 5 days that holds are held inside the library.

    The Holds Pickup Locker at the West Branch

    Here's how the Holds Pickup Lockers work.

    1. Select one of the Holds Pickup Lockers as your pickup location when you place your hold.
    2. We'll contact you when your hold is ready to pick up.
    3. Visit the locker 24/7 and use the touchscreen on the front of the machine to claim your hold. You'll need to scan your library card barcode or type in your library card number, so make sure you have it handy.

    Step 1: When placing a hold on an item, select a holds pickup locker as your pickup location.

    1. Use the library's online catalog to find the item you want, and click the green Place Hold button.
    2. In the Pick up at box, select Holds Locker at Main Library or Holds Locker at West Branch. Then click the blue ✓ Place hold button.

    Note: If you have enabled Single-Click Holds in your account, the catalog will automatically apply your default hold pickup location to every hold without asking you first.

      • You can change the hold pickup location for individual items by clicking your user name in the top right-hand corner of the screen and selecting On Hold. In the Pick up at drop-down menu next to each item, you can change the pickup location for that specific hold.
      • To change your default hold pickup location for all holds going forward, click your user name in the top right-hand corner of the screen and select My Settings. Then click Holds and Pickup Location. Select your preferred location and make sure that there isn't a checkmark next to Single-click holds.
      • If a hold is already available for pickup, you won't be able to change its pickup location.

    Step 2: Watch for your hold notification to arrive via email or text.

    1. You'll have 3 days to visit the Holds Pickup Locker to collect your item.
    2. Note that it is not possible to change the pickup location for holds once they are ready for pickup.
    On a computer, a user selects the Holds Locker at Main Library at their pickup location.

    Step 3: Visit the Holds Pickup Locker to get your hold. Make sure you have your library card or card number with you.

    1. At the Main Library, the Holds Pickup Locker is located on the first floor of the Main Library parking garage (425 E Main Street). The locker is accessible 24/7. There is a special parking spot marked for quick locker pickups that you can use. If the gates to the parking garage are closed, you can still park in the surface lot next to the garage and come inside to the locker.
    2. At the Joyce Winner West Branch, the Holds Pickup Locker is located behind the branch library (12770 Horseferry Road). The locker is accessible 24/7. There is a parking lot nearby that you can use.
    3. Tap the touchscreen on the front of the locker to begin. You will be prompted to scan your library card barcode on your library card or from a barcode app. You may also type in your card number on the touchscreen.
    4. A list of your available locker holds will display on the touchscreen. Tap Select All and then Check Out Selected.
    5. The door with your holds behind it will pop open. Your holds are automatically checked out at this point and are ready for you to take. Make sure to close the locker door and tap Done on the touchscreen.
    6. Please do not leave any unwanted items inside the locker. Instead, drop them off at the walk-up or drive-up returns slot on the side of the Main Library.
