The Next Chapter Book Club is the library's book group for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is presented in partnership with the Carmel Transition Program. Anyone can participate in the Next Chapter Book Club, whatever their reading or ability level. We believe everyone has the ability to connect to a story and a right to share theirs.
This is not a traditional reading class or tutoring program. Although members may (and often do) improve literacy skills, the focus is on reading-to-learn, not learning-to-read. Program copies of the book are available each meeting for in-person reading of the text.
This casual group meets weekly on Tuesdays at 2:30pm at the Main Library. Registration is required. See a list of upcoming sessions here. If you are interested in attending the Next Chapter Book Club, the questionnaire below needs to be filled out and submitted prior to registering for your first meeting. (Please wait until you receive a reply to your questionnaire before you sign up for a session.) For assistance in filling out the questionnaire, please visit the library or call us, and we'll be happy to help.
For more information, please email adultservices@carmelclaylibrary.org or call 317.814.3988.
The Carmel Clay Public Library is an affiliate of the international Next Chapter Book Club program.
IMPORTANT — If you have a medical condition or any self-harm, verbal, or physical aggressions that may require immediate attention, your parent/guardian or the person who brought you to the book club must remain on the premises during the meeting. Your emergency contact will be called first for any emergencies.
