Art Wall Fundraiser

The Carmel Clay Public Library strives to offer patrons enriching cultural and social experiences. The Art Wall Fundraiser brings diverse art and culture to the community by giving local artists the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work while raising funds for the library’s programs.

    Where is the Art Wall?

The Art Wall is located in the central lobby of the Main Library at 425 E Main Street. A different artist's work is featured each month.

How does the Art Wall Fundraiser support library programs?

30% of the proceeds from art purchased from the Art Wall goes to the CCPL Foundation, which in turn funds library programs and events for all ages. The sale of pieces from the Art Wall is administered by the Foundation Friends of the Carmel Clay Public Library. Art from the wall may be purchased through the Foundation Friends Bookstore in the Main Library.

How can artists apply for the Art Wall Fundraiser?

To be considered, interested artists may submit an application and a portfolio no later than August 1 of each year for a spot on the wall the following year.

Artists will be notified of the committee’s decision after October 31. Accepted artists will be assigned their exhibit month and sent a packet of information. Alternate artists may be placed on a wait list and contacted if an exhibiting artist cancels.

Art is vetted by the CCPL Art Committee. The Carmel Clay Public Library retains complete discretion in the selection of artists and works to be displayed based on quality of the art and appropriateness for the venue. When possible, the committee strives to have a variety of different media represented over the course of the year.

What are the guidelines for participating artists?

    • Subject matter should be suitable for display in a public building and viewing by all ages. Works that are overtly religious, political, or deemed by the committee to be objectionable are not acceptable and will be removed by the committee.
    • All pieces on display must be available for sale.
    • All pieces must be priced below $300. Experience has shown that the bestselling price range is under $200.
    • A minimum of 10 pieces must be displayed on the wall to ensure visual appeal.
    • Artists must sign a consignment agreement.
    • Artists are responsible for hanging their work at the beginning of their assigned month and removing it at the end of the month.
    • All pieces must be matted or framed or otherwise equipped to hang using the Art Wall hooks.
    • Artists must provide a complete inventory list of their exhibited items. Each piece of art must be labeled with the piece’s name, number, and price for easy identification and tracking.
    • Artists will provide a brief biography for use on the Art Wall.
    • In providing space for the Art Wall Fundraiser, the Carmel Clay Public Library does not create either a public forum or a limited public forum for the expression of speech. The Carmel Clay Public Library assumes no responsibility for damage or for loss due to casualty, theft, or any other reason.
    • Art Wall Fundraiser consideration is given to artists age 18 and up. For more information about opportunities for younger artists, visit our Teen Artist in Residence page.
