The Main Library Reopening Is Coming!
Here's What You Need to Know.
As part of the Main Library move, our online chat service and Main Library phone numbers are unavailable through August 28. For assistance by phone, please call the West Branch at 317.814.3965.
The Main Library's Grand Reopening Celebration will be on Saturday, October 1.
The Main Library, located at 425 E Main Street, will be reopening after a two-year construction project. We'll be reopening the doors to the public in mid-September (exact date TBA), but mark your calendar for our reopening celebration on October 1.
Our temporary library at Merchants' Square (2140 E 116th Street) and our Digital Media Lab at 23 E Main Street are now permanently closed.
The Joyce Winner West Branch is still open.
Our branch at 12770 Horseferry Rd in the Village of WestClay will remain open its regular hours (Mon–Thu 10am–8pm, Fri 10am–5pm, Sat 12pm–5pm). Stop on by!
And our digital services are still available, too.
Our digital collections of ebooks, audiobooks, streaming movies, and more are never closed. Get started with these digital formats here.
You'll also still be able to access our online databases and other resources here.
We'd love for you to hang onto your checkouts.
Although you'll be able to return checked-out items to the West Branch while this move is happening in August and September, the space we'll have for dealing with returned items will be limited. Since the beginning of July, we've been giving extended due dates for items, and we don't charge overdue fines. By keeping your items until after the Main Library reopens, you make it possible for the library to concentrate on getting services up and running there. We appreciate your help!
Here's what's happening with items you've placed on hold.
Any holds that have a pickup location of Main Library won't be available to pick up until after the Main Library reopens. The good news is that your spot in the waiting list will be maintained.
You do have the option to change your holds pickup location to the West Branch if you wish. (And you can change it back after the Main Library reopens.) Here's how.
Until the Main Library reopens, we won't be able to process any holds on items from the Main Library collection. You can still place holds on those items through our online catalog, but you won't get a notification that they're ready until after the Main Library move is complete and we are again able to prepare those items for your holds. (In other words, if you see something in the catalog that's supposed to be on the shelf at the Main Library, we won't be able to pull it for you until the Main Library reopens. If you need something right away, look in our catalog for items that are housed at the West Branch instead, or keep reading to find out how you can check things out from another library in Hamilton County.)
Have a question about your holds? Give us a call at 317.814.3965.
And you can also use your CCPL card to check things out from other Hamilton County libraries.
You can take your CCPL card, along with a photo ID, to a neighboring Hamilton County public library. After filling out an application form, they'll enter your card number into their system, and you'll be able to check items out. (Checkout policies vary, and electronic resources may not be available to non-resident cardholders.) The other libraries in Hamilton County are the Westfield Washington Public Library, the Hamilton East Public Library (Noblesville and Fishers branches), the Hamilton North Public Library (Atlanta and Cicero branches), and the Sheridan Public Library.
Library staff will still be standing by to answer your questions.
During this transition period, library staff are available to assist you in person at the West Branch and by phone at 317.814.3965 during West Branch open hours.
