The Main Library Is Moving! Here's What You Need to Know.
Where is the library moving, and when is the move happening?
While the Main Library construction project is happening, the library will be temporarily relocating to the Merchants' Square shopping center at 116th Street and Keystone Parkway (2140 E. 116th St).
The last day of service at the Main Library was Saturday, September 5.
The Merchants' Square Main Library will open on Monday, October 12.
The Main Library construction project is expected to last until late 2022.
Will the West Branch be open?
While the West Branch remains closed to the public due to COVID-19, holds can be picked up at the West Branch through curbside holds pickup. Here's how to change the pickup location for your holds to the West Branch. When you receive the notification that your hold is ready at the West Branch, stop by that location Monday-Thursday noon-8pm or Friday-Saturday noon-5pm.
When you arrive at the West Branch, text the word BOOK to 317-813-9802, and staff will assist you with your holds. To ensure safe physical distancing, please use this text service regardless of whether you arrive in a vehicle, by bike, or on foot.

Will I be able to pick up holds while the library is closed for the move?
Holds that were placed for pickup at the Main Library will be routed to the Merchants' Square Main Library. These holds will not be available to pick up at the Merchants' Square Main Library until that location opens in October. If you would like to change your hold pickup location to the West Branch instead, here's how to do so.
Curbside holds pickup will continue to be available at the West Branch. (See section above.) While the Main Library move is taking place, items that appear in the catalog as being on the shelf will take longer than normal to be processed for holds. Also, holds may show up in your online account before we have them processed for you to pick up, so it's important to wait for an email or text from us before you stop by.

What should I do with the things I have checked out?
While we're moving library service from the Main Library to the temporary location, you can help by hanging onto your checked out items. All items checked out from CCPL since the beginning of August have an extended due date, and overdue fines will not accrue until after November 1. By keeping your items until after the Merchants' Square location opens on October 12, you make it possible for the library to concentrate on getting services up and running there. We appreciate your help!
(If you feel strongly compelled to return your items before then, you can return them to the West Branch drive-up returns slot.)
So the extended due date on the items I just checked out or renewed is intentional?
Yes. We'd love for you to hang onto your checkouts until after the Merchants' Square Main Library opens. Enjoy some extra time with your library materials!
Will everything from the Main Library collection be moved over to the temporary library?
Because the temporary Merchants' Square Main Library is a smaller space than the Main Library, some items from the library's collection will be placed in storage while construction is happening. If you had placed a hold previously on an item that is affected by this change, the library will contact you to discuss other options.
Please read your hold notification messages from the library carefully for helpful information. Also, please wait for a message that your hold is ready before coming to the library to pick it up.
What if I have a question about something while the library is closed for this move?

If you live in Hamilton County, you may use your library card from your home library to check things out from any of the other public libraries in the county, too. To get an account set up at a neighboring Hamilton County library, you will need
a valid library card from your home library
a picture ID
proof of your current address (such as a piece of mail or a bill with your name and address)
The library will register your existing card into their system.
Checkout policies vary, so be sure to ask about the policies for that specific library. Electronic resources may not be available to non-resident cardholders.
