Zines are self-published works of art, poetry, and other media that are created by hand or digitally and distributed to an audience. They have their literary roots in fanzines and magazines and are typically produced in small batches.
This summer the library is launching the Teen Quaranzine Project, a collection of art and writing created by local teenagers that expresses their experiences through the COVID-19 pandemic. This community project empowers Carmel teens to share their feelings and experiences throughout these difficult times. It is an outlet for creativity, and more importantly, a platform for young adult voices.
Teens are eligible for community service hours for each piece of art or writing they submit. The library is accepting submissions from June 1–July 31. Submissions will be compiled into a digital zine at the end of summer. See the guidelines for submitting pieces and a complete description of the project. We look forward to hearing your stories and wish you well through these extraordinary times!
